Poet

Lesley Constable is a poet/painter and a trained modern dancer. Her passion for the arts emerged early and is life-long. Poetic influences include dreams, the Beat Poets, coffee, Rock 'n' Roll, Flamenco, US road trips, Cumbia, and an occasional Whiskey. She is a dual US/UK citizen by birth and has permanent residency in Mexico.

As a poet, she maintains an open-door policy with the subconscious, welcoming all that emerges. She embraces Jungian theories and pays close attention when the Muse or if the fairies come to call. Often her poems are the unfiltered first draft of what she receives. She is a prolific writer.

Her poems have been published widely in US/UK journals/anthologies (since 1999). "Entry Point: poems of time, place, being," her first collection published in 2015, is available on Amazon. Her second book, "A House without Walls: existential journeys and love poems to Mexico," is set for publication this year.

Professionally, she made her living almost exclusively as and arts worker - arts journalist/art critic for a major US newspaper and regional art journals. At The Ohio State University, she an art gallery curator, studio arts instructor and also managing editor for "The Ohio Journal" literary quarterly.

She active Open Mic performance poet who cut her teeth at late-night club venues in Sayulita, Mexico, beginning in 2008. She performs regularly at International ZOOM Open Mic readings/events, frequently as the featured poet. She has performed, gotten up the Mic at various venues in the UK including Hammer & Tongue Hackney (London), the Cheltenham Poetry Festival, The Exeter Phoenix, and at other events and venues in both the US and Mexico.

As an artist (painter), she has exhibited her work has been exhibited widely in both group and solo exhibitions in galleries and museums and has sold her prints at Artisan Markets in Mexico for over a decade.
