Joan Santillan Amurao is an award-winning Filipino poet working in Malaysia for nearly 13 years of the same employer. She is the author of the published book, “An Unknown Princess - Collection of Poems and Paintings". She is also one of the editors in M.E Publications. Her article, Adaptation and Expatriation has been selected as Best Article in Malaysia Day Essay Writing Competition 2022 in Multi-Ethnic and Multi-Cultural Project of United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Malaysia (Dong Zong). Most of her written poems has been published digitally and printed in various poetry platform, both local and international. Recently, her painting, “The Highrise of Serenity” was published in The Global South Journal by Indiana University Press. She performed and was televised in China during her poetry performance in Singapore. Aside from writing and reading, she is a natural animal and nature lover, these serves as an outlet to express her deep thought and so as to conquer the stigma of depression and homesickness.
She aims to motivate and encourage the citizens of all nations especially the migrants and refugees’ community, to build up ourselves with the ability we are equipped with and use our God's given talents and skills for our advantage, and allow it to have a ripple effect on the lives of others. "People need other people to remind us that life may be difficult, but it is just temporal”.
